TULSA, Okla. (Nov. 10, 2023) – GRAND Mental Health is enhancing quality of care for their veteran clients by implementing empathetic and respectful communication practices. GRAND’s admissions and crisis staff’s screening questions have been updated to help recognize veterans to better serve their needs. Self-identifying veterans will be offered the opportunity to connect with a GRAND behavioral health professional specifically trained in veteran trauma, or a GRAND clinician who is also a veteran.
“As a veteran myself, I want our veterans to know how much we appreciate all that they have done to serve our country. I also understand their experiences and traumas are different from many others and sometimes it’s easier to talk with someone that has had similar experiences or can understand what they’re going through.” says Larry Smith, Chief Executive Officer of GRAND Mental Health.
GRAND’s veteran support efforts are in partnership with Oklahoma based, MyCare Technologies, a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and developer of the MyCare application housed on GRAND i-Pads that are provided to all clients. Through MyCare’s veteran-specific software updates, GRAND’s self-identifying veteran client profiles will clearly note a client’s military service so that all GRAND staff who interact with these veterans for virtual visits or 24/7 crisis calls can honor them, thank them for their service and connect them with the services and staff that best meet their unique needs. “None of this would be possible without our partners at MyCare,” Smith adds.
